Midtune Record · Audio recorder

Record what your Mac plays.

Any app, the whole system, or a microphone, as separate tracks when you want them, to CAF, WAV, or AAC. Protected content excepted.

Midtune Record is a native macOS 26 audio recorder that captures the whole system, a single app, or a microphone, runs it through a visible signal chain (gain, three-band EQ, compressor, balance), and writes CAF, 24-bit WAV, or AAC files. It needs no driver and no admin password.

What it does

What does Record do?

System, app, or microphone

Pick the whole Mac, one running app, or any input device. Record's own audio is always excluded, and an unavailable app is an error, never a silent broadening of capture.

A signal chain you can see

Gain → three-band EQ → compressor → balance, applied live while recording, with presets for gentle leveling, spoken voice, and firm control.

Files you can trust

CAF or 24-bit WAV for lossless takes, AAC at 128, 192, or 256 kb/s for small ones. Headers flush every 10 seconds, so a crash keeps what you recorded.

A library of every take

Titles, searchable notes, real meters, and pause that omits paused time. Reveal the latest take in Finder with one shortcut.

Multitrack with Route

Point Record at a Route virtual device and each source lands on its own track.

Who it is for

Who uses Record?

  • Podcasters

…capture a remote guest's call and the local mic as clean files.

  • Students and researchers

…save a lecture stream or interview to listen later.

  • Musicians

…grab a synth app or browser into a 48 kHz 24-bit WAV, no cables.

  • Journalists

…record a call with pause and a real level meter.

Honest limits

  • Protected (DRM) content is not capturable and records as silence.
  • Per-app capture is a stereo mixdown of that app. Multitrack per source is Route's job.
  • No plug-in hosting, scheduled recording, or live broadcasting.

Record questions

Does Record need a kernel extension or audio driver?

No. Record uses Apple's capture APIs directly. There is nothing to install beyond the app and no password prompt.

What happens when the trial ends?

Your library stays browsable, playable, and exportable, and sessions stay editable. Only starting a new recording asks you to subscribe. An in-progress recording is never cut.

Which formats are best for long sessions?

CAF has no 4 GB limit and tolerates crashes. WAV auto-splits at 3.9 GB. AAC is for small files.

Can Record capture a Zoom or FaceTime call?

Yes, as application audio. Your own microphone is captured in a second session or, with Route, as a separate track in the same take.
