Midtune Route · Virtual audio routing

Every sound, exactly where you want it.

Virtual devices that mix apps, system audio, and inputs into any app, with per-channel connections. The plain cable is free.

Midtune Route creates virtual audio devices that any Mac app can pick as its microphone or speaker, and fills them with whatever you choose: single apps, the whole system, microphones and interfaces, with per-channel routing, per-source gain and mute, and monitors so you can hear the result.

What it does

What does Route do?

Up to 32 virtual devices

Each with 1 to 64 channels at 44.1 to 192 kHz, visible to macOS as both an input and an output. Rename, duplicate, or switch them off from the sidebar.

Sources, not just cables

Add apps, the whole system, or inputs; mute the original app audio so it only plays where you send it.

A channel matrix

Connect any source channel to any device channel. Reducing a device's channels prunes connections instead of breaking them.

Monitors

Hear a device on your headphones or interface while it feeds OBS, Zoom, or a DAW.

The cable is free, forever

Pass-through lives in the Midtune Audio Engine, so a plain loopback works even when the Route app is not running, before any trial and after it ends.

Who it is for

Who uses Route?

  • Streamers

…send game, music, and mic into OBS as one input, keep Discord separate.

  • Podcasters

…feed a remote call and local mics into a recorder as one device.

  • Musicians

…route a browser or synth into the DAW without cables, at 96 or 192 kHz.

  • Teachers and presenters

…play a video with sound into Zoom by selecting Route as the mic.

Specifications

Key facts

Route works with Record and DeNoise: route a mix into Record, record a DeNoise chain, or clean the call you are routing.

  • Audio Unit plug-in hosting is planned for v2.2, not available today.
  • The full mix needs the Route app running; pass-through does not.

Route questions

Does Route replace BlackHole?

For a plain cable, yes, and that part never locks. Route adds mixing of apps and inputs, a channel matrix, and monitors on top.

Is an admin password required?

Once, when the Midtune Audio Engine installs. No restart, no Recovery mode, and nothing further afterwards.

What locks when the trial ends?

Virtual devices stay published and pass-through keeps working. Sources, monitors, and meters stop at the next connection start or launch, never while audio is flowing.

Can I control Route from Shortcuts or the terminal?

Yes. The midtune route command exposes devices and connections, and Shortcuts actions ship on day one.
